I'm planning on moving off grid in the future. I won't be able to move for somewhere around 3-5 years. I'm trying to save enough money to buy land and all other necessary objects to get out into nature. I plan on moving from Florida to Wyoming, Montana, colorado, or Washington. I want to move into the woods with nothing and build a house with all natural materials. I've looked into cob housing and log homes. I believe getting back to our roots of hunter gatherers is the only thing we can do to save the planet we live on. Society has grow materialistic and selfish and I know nature is caring and giving. I can't wait for my journey!

A lot of how much chemical leeching depends on if the barrels are stored in a cool place away from heat and sun. If they are stored in a basement or closet inside your home in cooler temperatures instead of outside you wouldn't have as much chemical leaching.

The best type of container for storing water, in my opinion, is the wooden barrels used for wine or whiskey. No chance of chemicals leaking out or of lemon breaking down the plastic. If you do use plastic then either use the stabilized oxygen or the colloidal silver.

I am a doTERRA Essential Oils Product Consultant and Lemon oil is amazing and I can say you hit the mark with this article.
My only caution would be using Lemon oil in any plastic container... Not for the sake of the container, but for your health.
The lemon oil will breakdown the plastics and even if it does not eat thru a thicker container, it will breakdown the plastic thus you will have plastic in your water. Drink the water and drink the petrochemicals. Probably not the goal here.

I have not seen a visible breakdown in the tritan copolyester from using the lemon essential oil. If someone used cheap plastic like clear thin milk cartons it definitely would and that is something to consider.

I've never tried it with beef but I'm sure it would also work. You can try it and see. Veggie broth I don't really think it would work.

What a wonderful assortment of quinoa ideas! I didn't know it could be grown at home. Might just give that a try.
Thanks for all the information!

My question is about using the Lemon essential oil for water storage. The plastic container that you recommended that is reusable, can you use the Essential Oil in that or is it still a danger to break down the plastic overtime?

I studied pyramid energy since the 1970"s. I was the NW distributor of Pyramid Products. My research was mostly done using a Pyramid Energy Generator, this device had its own magnetic field, and was very reliable. Kirilian photography showed the following:
1. Dehydration without rot, caused by effects on water's magnetic bond and a decrease in surface tension
2, Brighter auras after being charged with many subjects.
The book that got me involved in pyramids was Pyramid Power by G. Patrick Flanagan

what a great article! i've been so discouraged trying to find organic, gluten free, non GMO emergency food! your way is certainly more time consuming, but well worth it for those of us who don't want to eat crap even in an emergency.

hello, I bought some 55 gal HDPE barrells that had champagne vinigar stored in them. I washed them out and am planning to use them for water storage. Maybe 2-5 years. As far as i know they were used only once very recently, so me filling them up again would be the socond use. I am concerned about chemicals leeching, but in an emergency situation how much of a threat is using these barells. Am i guarenteed to get some chemicals in my water? if so how much? Is it enough to force me to find different storage containers?
I would appreciate any insight into this
thanks

I think this is important to make people aware especially after what happened in Japan last year. People should be armed with this sort of information in case the worst happens.
